This week, I wanted to share three of my go-to kitchen staples. These are the things I keep on hand to make cooking quicker, save money, and help me sneak in more protein and veggies without much effort.

1. Frozen Capsicum
Frozen capsicum is a lifesaver! It’s already sliced, which means no chopping or mess, and it lasts ages in the freezer. I throw it into stir-fries, omelettes, mince dishes, slow cooked casseroles or even pasta sauces when I want a pop of colour and flavour. Plus, there’s no worrying about it going off in the fridge. Grab it from the frozen veg section of the supermarket for around $5 per bag.
2. Pouched Egg Whites

Egg whites are an easy way to add lean protein to meals. The pouched version makes life so simple - no cracking eggs or separating yolks. I often add them to scrambled eggs, smoothies, omelettes or quiche to boost protein that helps me stay full for longer. You can find them in the chiller at the supermarket, normally near the yoghurts for around $14 for a large pouch. You can freeze them as well if you find you don't use the pouch quickly.
3. Frozen Cauliflower Rice
This is such a versatile staple. It’s quick to prepare and a great alternative to regular rice when you want to up your veggie intake. You can use it as a base for stir-fries, pair it with curries, or mix it into your meals to add volume without much effort. I even add it to macaroni cheese for an easy kids dinner and they have no idea it is in there. Find it in the frozen veg section of the supermarket for around $4.
These three staples make it easier to eat healthy without the added expense or complication. They’ve saved me so much time and stress on busy days, and they help me whip up meals that feel good to eat.
If you try any of these, I’d love to hear how they work for you.
Wishing you a week filled with easy, healthy meals.
